PGA TOUR Skill Ratings

The Skill Ratings were developed to give a quick visual overview of the style of play that individual PGA TOUR players uses in their approach to the game. The players are rated in four areas: power, accuracy, short game, and putting.

Each of the categories is comprised of at least three ShotLink statistics measuring the specific area of a player's performance. A player's score for each category is based on a scale of one to 10, with one being low. Each statistic is scored using the deciles created using the most recent two complete years of ShotLink data available. Players' statistics in the top-10 percent get a 10, the next a nine, and so forth. The scores from each statistic are combined to create an overall score for each category.

The four areas are defined as follows:

Power
Power is designed to measure the player's power from the tee.

• Average, Driving Distance, Measured
• Percentage of Drives, 300+ Yards, All Drives
• Percentage of Drives 320+ Yards, Measured

Accuracy
Accuracy is designed to measure the overall accuracy of a player from the tee and on approach.

• Driving Accuracy
• Greens in Regulation, from greater than 100 yards
• Proximity to the Hole, from greater than 100 yards

Short Game
Short Game is designed to measure player performance from 100 yards and in.

• Proximity to the Hole from the Sand
• Proximity to the Hole from Rough
• Proximity to the Hole from Fringe
• Scrambling
• Greens in Regulation Percentage from less than 100 yards
• Proximity to the Hole from less than 100 yards

Putting
Putting is designed to measure player performance on the greens.

• Putting Average
• Average Distance of Putts Made
• 3-putt avoidance over 25 Feet
• Putting Inside 5 Feet
• Putting 5-15 Feet
• Putting 15-25 Feet
